This has always been one of my favourite pages from the Tabasco Lang story. It’s big, it’s bold and I even like the layout of the chapter title.
The Cuckoo is of course inspired by Peter Lorre. When I began looking for reference material, I was of course aware of his supporting roles in Casablanca, Arsenic and Old Lace and The Maltese Falcon but the physical appearance of the Cuckoo only materialized when I saw Fritz Lang’s M (Peter Lorre’s first movie part – or until imdb.com proves me wrong). Lorre is younger and chubbier in the movie, but no less compelling. If you haven’t seen it, you could check it out. I highly recommend it.
